UPDATE on SSHRC anti-earmarking petition:

February 24, 2009

Just heard from Audra Williams at Niki Ashton’s office and apparently an online signature on her petition is not sufficient; one needs to download the PDF, sign and mail it. (There is one in the Hum. and Lang. office at UNBSJ if you would like to drop by and sign it.)

I signed it on line, where I added this note — as I will when I print and mail it (thank you): This abrogation of SSHRC’s mandate belies the Conservative Government’s most nasty thrust — equivalent to the Prime Minister’s remarks about “rich galas” in the arts — or it reveals just plain ignorance of the definitions and traditions of “Social Sciences” and “Humanities.” It is as though the Alice of Stephen Harper’s Wonderland has slipped down the proverbial hole.
