Students rate their universities

February 9, 2009

The results are in.  The annual MacLean’s survey of university students reveals yet again that all is not well in New Brunswick universities.

Believe it or not, UNB Saint John (which is surveyed separately from UNB Fredericton in this particular ranking exercise) actually exceeds the NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement) average in one category — “Supportive Campus Environment” — and just misses the average by .4% in “Active and Collaborative Learning” and by 2.4% on Student-Faculty Interaction.   Unbelievable given the chronic state of underfunding that plagues the campus.

Together with our sister campus in Fredericton we miss the mark in categories such as “Enriching Educational Experience.” and overall happiness with “entire educational experience.”    I guess both campuses need more money to be competitive with the 50+ institutions ranked by NSSE/MacLean’s.

Congrats to Mount Allison for rising to the top–as usual.
