So the provincial government in NL

has dismissed four members of the MUN Board of Regents before their terms were up and replaced them, one of whom was the vice-chair of the ad hoc committee responsible for recommending changes to the Memorial University Act to ensure autonomy for the university. Why? According to Minister of Education Joan Burke, “It’s just we’re at a point right now where government does have the authority to appoint people … and we just thought it would be timely to put some new members on the board.”

In other words, “we’re doing it because we can.”
