A story

December 12, 2008

in the T-J today is titled “More money, more power.” And it’s true. But what the article doesn’t say is that the money, presuming the University administration even agrees to follow the suggestion, would be a one-time transfer which, while welcome, would do nothing to address long-standing inequities. And yes, if the University adopts the suggestion of the Inter-campus commission to institute an advisory council to the Board of Governors, there would indeed be more power. Not for the Saint John campus, mind, but for the same special interests in this community who have been angling for local (read, business) control over university education in this city.

Talk about a rock and a hard place.
