Meanwhile, to the east,

November 19, 2008

the search for a new president for Memorial entres a new chapter with the appointment of “high-profile” Bob Simmonds as chair of the board of regents.

“It’s certainly a positive move because it’s a nice, clean break from the things that had happened before with the search and what appeared to be improper intrusion by government into the decision-making,” [Memorial University Faculty Association president Ross Klein] said.

However, concerns remain that Premier Danny Williams’ refusal to consider changing the law that gives the provincial government what until recently has been a titular role in presidential appointments, means that the university may have difficulty attracting credible candidates.

We feel their pain.
