The T-J again

October 17, 2008

displays it’s authomatic reflex to foam at the mouth whenever the subject of unions comes up: an extremely brief bit on yesterday and today’s summit on privatization in Saint John helpfully explains “The sign behind [Keith Reynolds, national research representative for the Canadian Union of Public Employees in British Columbia] referring to the ‘P3 trap,’ is a reference to labour’s disdain for public-private partnerships.” Labour’s “disdain”? How… how disdainful. Say rather, the criticisms that many in the labour movement — for “Labour” is not  monolithic — have about the encroachment of the profit motive into the public sector. And the labour movement is surely not the only sector that has problems with public money going to subsidize private companies.
