Keep Oct. 18 open

September 27, 2008

Last year around that time there was a demonstration in Fredericton — the fourth in a series of rallies across the province — and this year there are various plans to mark that season, as well as look ahead. UNB Saint John is planning an event to thank the community for its support, though the details, including date and time, are being worked out. At St. Thomas, the Special Senate Committee on the PSE Report will be hosting a forum on the Government of New Brunswick’s “Action Planon the 18th, and will, one hears, take advantage of the presense of the CAUT Defense Fund AGM in Fredericton that weekend to invite Jim Turk to speak at their event.

Where is the UNB Special Senate(s) Committee on the PSE Report?

I will float that by other Senators, but my initial response is that many on the campus have been acting in that capacity on an ad hoc basis and I wonder if we really need to formalize it? However, I may just be balking at the thought of more committees and more meetings, so will pass this on and get back to you.

Yes, more committees can make even the passionate balk. But,in retrospect, as I noted in a post earlier on, it may be time for the other universities (and campus) to take the lead at this point.

Definitely. It’s a universal prionciple at stake.
