Leslie Jeffrey sends this story about a new poll in Australia that indicates that people there value universities but think they are underfunded and that an increasing lack of access to higher education is a problem:

High quality, accessible university education is the cornerstone of a strong, flexible economy and of a vibrant civil society.  The second ANU poll examines public opinion towards higher education.  Topics covered include: access to higher education; universities and the labour market; the funding of higher education; and university performance.
