Education: not for everyone?

August 21, 2008

Kevin Carey and Robert T. Perry have two companion pieces in Inside Higher Ed.: “On Real Education,” Parts One and Two. Carey’s piece is in large part a response to Charles Murray’s book, Real Education, which makes the risable claim that the 35% of the U.S. population that goes to university is too high: he argues 10% would be more reasonable. Perry focuses on the contention that (North) America needs more vocational training, rather than university education. Both are worth reading.
