Don Desserud’s article is spot on topic. He has said in very clear terms what I’ve been trying to get across to a number of people but he has done it so much better. One can hope his argument has greater effect.
The revelation that Miner cribbed his ideas from somewhere else doesn’t really surprise me. It certainly fits in with his mantra “the university is a business like any other.”
As for “Just in Time Education,” surely education is a far more complex process than supply chain management. My own experience with JIT supply is that it is seldom “just in time” to meet the need and it is frequently “just too late” to be of any value. This bodes no good for applying the same principle to education.
