You know I am a country music (especially bluegrass) fan, right?
Dolly Parton earned her honorary degree(s). She founded the Imagination Library to send every child in Tennessee a free book every month until age five. It has expanded to many other places in the United States and in 2008 her program included parts of British Columbia.
I have to admit when I read about some of Dolly’s accomplishments I found out about a lot of initiatives she has been a part of that are very worthy of praise. I only singled her out because of the timing (her honourary degree was announced during the same week), and the idea of comparing her to Shawn was too tantalizing. The aim was to take a dig at Guy Smiley though, not Dolly.
