A couple of stories
2008 November 10
in Macleans about the CUPE strike at York U and the suggestion that academic workers bargain collectively:
- “York University strike is CUPE’s Waterloo: You know a strike lacks support when even The Toronto Star doesn’t get behind it,” Joey Coleman, Macleans.ca (Nov. 8/08).
- “Ont. dismisses combined bargaining for university unions: Union officials are pushing for bargaining process similar to provincial school boards ,” Macleans.ca (Nov. 7/08).
Now I’m not sure what I think of this idea, but the clear opposition from both government and university administration make me more favourably disposed to at least consider it.
